About Us

In the year 1926, Rev. G. J. Martin saw the need for another church in Belmont Heights, Hillsboroough County, Tampa, Florida. He, with the help of six members, organized and established a church on Lindell Avenue where the Rev. W. D. McDall served as pastor for one year.

In 1927, Rev. G. J. Martin became pastor and the church was moved to an old building on 36th Avenue. In 1930, the church was completely destroyed by fire. Another building was purchased and the church was moved to 42nd Avenue. In 1932, Rev. Martin was called to work as a missionary. Rev. Caldwell became his successor who served as pator for three months after which the Rev. A. L. Dixon from Rubonia, Florida became pastor, and then Rev. B. L. Bowens camem to serve for one year. In 1946, Rev. Ed. D. Burnett became pastor and served for two years. In 1948, Rev. L. R. Stancil was called and he led the shepherds for 44 years until his death on May 4m 1992. After his demise came Elder B. F. Strange and Rev. Charles F. Burney from May 2000 to April 2001.

New Bethel prayerfully continued their search for a shepherd and the Lord sent the great Rev. Reginal T. Webb from Lakeland, Florida. He faithfully worshipped with New Bethel as interim pastor for one year and was installed as pastor on February 24, 2002.

The New Bethel family has experienced much growth. The most recent progressive move was the construction of the the "Family Life Center" which is located adjacent to the church. The official ground-breaking was held on Saturday, September 20, 2003. The membership currently stands at 700+ members under the leadership of Pastor Webb.

Continually driven to excellence, he attended Nova Southeastern University earning his M.B.A. and he also received Biblical training from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Pastor Webb’s employment began with Polk State College in 1990 and he has served in several capacities throughout the Student Services department. In January 2006, he continued to progress as a College Administrator and was named Dean of Student Services (Lakeland campus). Effective January 2014, he has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Student Services. He believes that a good education is one of the greatest equalizers in society.

Pastor Webb is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., graduate of the Leadership Lakeland and Polk Vision Leadership programs. He has always been very active in his community and is often sought to speak at various community and church events.

His Christian walk began at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida. For a period of 28 years, he was under the spiritual leadership of Rev. J. J. McGriff, Pastor. In 1997, he accepted his calling into the ministry and was ordained in 1998. In 1999, the Lord led him to Harmony Missionary Baptist Church where he humbly served as an associate minister under the spiritual leadership of Rev. Steve Caudle, Pastor. On Tuesday, January 8, 2002, he was called to be the Pastor of New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida. Under his leadership, New Bethel has grown physically and spiritually and the church continues to win souls for Christ one sinner at a time. Because of God’s grace and everyone’s commitment to Excellence in Christ, New Bethel has become the Church of Choice.

Statement of Faith

Statement of Faith

We Believe In

The Holy Bible

We believe the Holy Bible is God's word, the 66 books of the Old and the New Testaments, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by human authors. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

God

We believe God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three are co-equal and are one God. God the Father is omnipresent, perfect in holiness, wisdom, strength, power and love. Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19

The Birth, Burial, Resurrection

We believe that Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary, that He is the Son of God, coexistent with the Father and the Holy Spirit. He came to this world, suffered and was crucified, hung on the cross and died, was buried in a borrowed tomb and on the third day rose and ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. Luke 24, 1 John 2:1

The Salvation is by Grace

We believe salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgivness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we run from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 3:26; romans 5:1

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the christian with power of living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we need to live under His control daily. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14-16; Acts 1:8

The Second Coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ

We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His Kingdom. He will first come to call all the saints to Heaven, then pour out the righteous judgments upon the unbelieving world. He will then descend to establish His Kingdom. John 14:-3; Revelation 20: 106; 1 Corinthians 15:52
